Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2001 F350 7.3 diesel trouble starting in cold weather.  Turn the key and
the glow plug relay starts up, but the alternator shows no draw.  After turning ignition
on/off about 8 times the alternator shows a big draw and then it starts fine.  Does anyone
know why?

Sounds ike the Glo-plug relay contacts are shot (bent or burned) or the relay coil not giving enough "oomph"!! Either way, try a new relay.

Thanks! I'm going to take it into the local dealership and my trusted local mechanic (non-diesel expert) and see what they have to say...so I appreciate the outside opinion!
