Antifreeze leak repair cost

I have a 2003 Subaru Outback and a few days ago I saw smoke coming from
the front hood. Mechanic checked and said it's leaking from the head and is
expensive to repair. How much will this cost?

Head gasket repairs are indeed expensive, and if your motor has a lot of mileage on it, you may have to consider additional repairs like water pump replacement, to take advantage of having the motor opened up anyway.
New head gaskets can run you at least $2,000. Find a good independent Subaru shop and get a price. Do the timing belt at the same time.
Hmm, not sure why I said water pump above, I meant timing chain lol. Long day.
