Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I just had major repairs on my 4R and am curious as to how I did.  Front and rear brakes.  Rotors.  Struts. Replace timing belt, timing belt cover and water pump and thermostat.  New spark plugs and oil change. $2183 including tax. I thought this was a fair deal, and was performed at an independent shop, not at a Dealer.

Prices can vary a lot from Cali to NY to the midwest. I'll give you some comparisons to numbers you might expect to pay here in the midwest: Replace all brakes including rotors:4-500. Struts: labor at 50/corner, plus cost of struts (if a shop buys them add 10% to material cost) Timing chain + water pump - 800, thermostat is negligible. You're not too bad, tad higher but then if you don't have any contacts in the trade I suppose that's to be expected. (you might be living in a more expensive part of the country too). Also, when it comes to timing chains, there is a huge amount of price variations from shop to shop.

Ken, that 4Runner V8 has a timing belt ..and Shelby that seems just a tad high, but just a little, like Ken says depends on where you live. But it's NOT like you got screwed. Hopefully you got Denso iridium plugs. Worth every penny and will perform better than any other
