alternator workshop light on volkswagen jetta

Asked by Nicishel Dec 22, 2016 at 02:46 AM about the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I keep having "Alternator Workshop" appear on my dash just before all the
power goes out.  Alternator checks out fine, battery checks out fine, fuses
and fuse box are brand new. This warning has been appearing for 3
months sporadically and never for the mechanics; initially it was just the
Workshop warning, then added "STOP" and "Brake Fault". The power
going out is more recent. It has been into the shop numerous times.  Any
ideas of what might be causing this?

I have a feeling you could have a bad ground or connection or possible a bad ECM.
