Asked by GuruBF21P Jan 21, 2019 at 02:57 PM about the 2005 Ford Explorer XLT V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving at low speed its sound the wheel is
breaking off . I stood out side while my wife pulled
forward and backwards and it seems its coming
from cv axle but not sure put sway bar links and tie
rods on and aligned it close as i could but the
noise is unbearable any advice or help in
diagnosis?

Only way to find out is to get the car up on a lift and see if you can move the wheel around to isolate the noise. It might be the cv but my first thought is wheel bearing. If so at least do both fronts. Good Luck!

Brian is right about the wheel bearings. That's a common problem on these Ford Explorers.
