Spark plug shot out.

Driving down the road there was a loud bang.
My first thought was we snapped a belt. Pull
off to the side if the road and the plug was
sitting there on the engine like nothing
happened. The plug isn't marred and the
threads look perfect. I don't know how it
happened. My question is why would it
happenand us it fixable? The car still runs and I
can start it up now and it'll start right up.
(Drove it home on 4 cylinders.) I need to know
what would cause it to happen, and if it might
be safe to replace the plugs and drive it still.
It's been parked since it did that.

did you have plugs recently installed or any top end engine work yes I would try put plug back in see if it will screw back in normaly that will let you know if threads are stripped or pulled try start it by hand with a socket maybe some light grease or anti seze on plug threads will help

The cylinder head is probably aluminum, the spark plugs are steel. The threads of the spark plug will not be damaged by the softer aluminum of the cylinder head. Sounds like the threads of the head were crossed or buggered up at some point and the plug worked its way out, or maybe that plug just wasn't tightened up properly.
