Battery losing voltage

Asked by Jessica Dec 31, 2022 at 11:22 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox LT FWD

Question type: General

2007 Chevy equinox Lt 56, 000 original miles, battery isn't dead but it gets down
to 9 volts and won't turn the car over without a jump.  Immediately starts with a
jump everytime.  This doesn't happen everyday, sometimes a week in between
having to jump it. While it's running the voltage fluctuates.  No lights are left on,
battery is 6 months old and tested good as well as the alternator and starter.
Any advice welcome, thank so much.

There maybe a programming glitch in the BCM. Had something similar happen on my Equinox, intermittently the brake and backup lights would stay on even with the key off and removed from the ignition. Dealer did get it to happen but could not figure out why. I had a thought and had them reflash the system and bingo it went away. Still no idea why it happened, battery was never removed without the memory saver tool. Might be worth having it checked.

Right, something is definitely draining your battery when it is sitting.

I think the system was rest, I'll have to check. The ignition was also replaced. I thought that may have had something to do with it but it's still doing it.

They would have had to reprogram the security system to recognize the new parts. Only a live data scan would show what is happening when it happens.
