Severe Hesistation in hot weather

Asked by Kerri Jul 27, 2018 at 10:38 AM about the 2007 Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0T 2-Door FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2007 GTI almost stalls out after driving for 2 hours in hot weather, loses fuel pressure, and continues a 10 secs cycle of severe loss of power. Have replaced Fuel pump, fuel sensors, tune-up, cam and crank sensors, and thinking about replacing the ECM?  Any help??

1 Answer

Common problem with the 2.0l TFSI is wear of the cam follower that sits between the fuel pump piston shaft and the lobe on the inlet cam. With the cam follower wearing the stroke length of the fuel pump piston is reduced and then the fuel delivery is lessened. This cam follower should be part of routine maintenance and should be inspected or replaced every 20,000kms. Hope this helps.
