Where you had it parked, is there any oil on the floor/ground? If so check the transmission oil if you can. Also jack it up, and after putting solid jacks under to help hold it, take a clean cloth and wipe the transmission to see if there is any signs of a lek. While under there, check to make sure the linkage is intact. If it is an automatic, has it popped a fuse to the system? Can you feel any movement when shifting the gears? Are you putting your foot on the break before shifting gears? If it was from a dealer, call them to see if they will look at it. Also if it was a private party, call and talk to them about the problem, They may have an answer.
