2005 Saab 9-3

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Saab 9-3 has immobiliser failure. I have
changed the battery in the car and the remotes. The
keys will unlock the doors and the keys also turn all
the way. However, the car does not crank and
displays immobiliser failure. Any advice?

you could check the fuse panel may be a fused security system ,

Keys are controlled by computer. Have the software flashed

Thanks for the replies. I have checked all the fuses. All good. Also, I don’t think the keys are the problem. I think having the computer flashed would be helpful since the battery was dead for about a year before I got the car. I was just hoping for something more simple

I had the crank positioning sensor go on my Saab, but didn't show a immobilizer warning. I does sound like a security issue. It wouldn't hurt to reprogram the key. Even though it unlocks the doors it couldn't hurt.

Push the trunk key button while turning it over to start it hold it while starting

I had the same issue. I checked the fuse, replaced the battery in the key FOB's. Still getting the immobilizer failure warning. I happen to look closer at the key fob ignition socket and it had some dirt, (not much) also looked like some pop may have spilled (not sure as I had let the son use the car to go to his new job). Anyway I cleaned it out with a micro fiber cloth, q-tip with a little alcohol and some compressed air. Haven't had a warning message since the cleaning. It did not really look that dirty so I am very surprised. worth a shot.

Do lock and unlock your key that made my car start. I do both keys. Saab 93 one crazy m fkr
