Check egine light came on

Battery went dead. Got new one. But now egine
light on.

Had a vacuum leak on hose under hood. Trimmed and replaced. Cost $35.00 and Light went off. First shop said I needed catalaconverter. $1400. Got second opinion took to a European car shop. Only cost 35. And light is off. And he scanned it for free.
