Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a used Jag from a dealer...after a couple of drives, the Check
Engine light came on. I brought it to a friend mechanic, who hooked it up to
a computer and revealed the following codes.
P0171 -System too lean (bank 1) and P0174 - System too lean (bank 2)
His assessment is that the upper intake manifold gaskets need to be
repalaced. I have now brought it back to the dealer to make good on these
reapairs...has anyone ever experienced this before? Was it costly?

I have now heard back from the service dept., that said they got the same results and ran a smoke test. Their remedy is to re-silicone the seals ....does this sound like proper protocol?
