The battery started the car didn't it ? I think you need a multi tester to see if the battery has 12.5 volts at rest and if a good alternator is putting out 14 + volts when running . The person at the parts store is a salesman not a mechanic . I just replaced/patched broken wires in the door boot on my 2002 buick lesabre .
