Maintenance Repair On Buick
I have a Buick Lesabre that had sat for a whole
year with the back window on the drivers side,
down. The battery bad and I'm going to replace it
but I don't know much about cars. What should I do
to it to ensure that it's back running good?
You should find someone who can give you some basic pointers and help at times so you do it safely. You should also start out by having a mechanic inspect it and estimate what you are getting into and how much it will cost to restore a seventeen year old vehicle. Old Buicks are good project cars and it might be fun. Start by charging up that battery and power the window up. Have fun.
If its only been a year since it last ran, do a general service. Check all fluid levels, make sure rats have not made nest in the car, exhaust, air intake ect. put some fuel injection cleaner in tank that says it also gets rid of water from condensation, check air filter, fuses, all electrical connections. Look at the plug wires, and spark plugs, clean or replace and clean the PCV valve. Check you oil if black replace it and oil filter. Check radiator antifreeze and replace it dark. look around for dry-rotted or cracked vacuum hose's/lines, be prepared to drain the fuel tank and change out the fuel filter too, if it does not crank. Before just yanking stuff around remember to do some research be mindful that parts can be broken if you pull or hit on them, look to see how it comes off or apart.
Brakes can freeze up too.
u opened the rear seat for the battery compartment?push in and pop up? follow the manual for battery disconnect / reconnection. also, clean terminals to battery to get best metal to metal contact.
