Check engine light

Question type: General

Check engine light is yellow and exclamation mark is Red. What does the red
mark mean? Should'nt they both be yellow on an minor problem? Had it
checked and was only a gas cap problem.

Ask the Germans who programmed your car. It got your attention and was fixed so I guess it worked?

There is no "correct" way to do things. Each car builder has their own way of building cars. Asking the engineers is the only way to really know.

Yellow check engine light means you got a code but it is not as critical. Red check engine light means you got a serius problem such as a misfire. The red exclamation light comes up whenever there is a warning for the driver. It may from the engine or any other warning that you get on the dashbaord.
