Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Check Engine Light – The check engine light has been on for a year and my
mechanic has tried everything, but when he checks the codes there is no aveo
code. He has erased it but it comes back on a couple of days later.

a code is being stored in the ECM due to a fault detected. Take it to a parts store to see if they can pull the code. They wont charge you for doing this. If there is no code could be faulty ECM

My car started doing this a week after I bought it. We started with the easy stuff like tightening the gas cap and changing the gas cap. If my mechanic cannot pull the code how is a parts store supposed to. I live in Canada so they might charge me. I have no other problems with the car.

if the check engine light comes on it is storing a code . If a scanner can't retrieve the code could be the ecm itself as no connection is possible between the scanner and the ecm. A qualified shop can find the problem without the stored code with other equipment if need be An ECM can malfunction, short out in areas of importance and even send false signals .
