HCAT, air, and Cat warning on OBDII after battery change

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I bought a used Aveo5 SV stick 87k I am having smog issues, before a battery change I saw HCAT and Air warnings on my Ancel 410 no engine light and no running issues. After a battery change, I had the above plus EGR and something else. I found the drive cycle for Chevy and have been trying it for 2 days. Idle 2.5 min the test says 55 for 3 min but I've only been able to do 50 but its an uphill type of grade not steep but uphill then decelerate to 20 and repeat. I tested it this morning on the obdii after the last round and got rid of the EGR but not the HCAT, CAT, and AIR. I'm leaving the state in a week and very worried since I need a smog pass. I have two O2 sensors hoping that will help with the HCAT and maybe the air but the upstream is stuck on need a mechanic since I've broken two bolts and helicoiled one on the car already not enough time to do everything.

If anyone can offer any ideas I'd appreciate it...

To get the emission readiness monitors to set you don't have to do the elaborate "drive cycle" at all. Just drive a few days with the gas gauge between three quarters and one quarter full. This will allow the computer to run the diagnostics on the different systems and set the readiness monitors. Your vehicle will pass inspection, under Federal Law, with one of the readiness monitors not set. It doesn't matter which one is not set as long as all the other ones are set. Hope that helps! Jim

Hello, I bought some heat shrink for electrical tubing and I used that to fix my torn hose adapter this hose adapter is strange as it was much larger on the tube side and it had to bend 90 degrees, I cleaned out the throttle body and it really made a performance difference very touchy throttle response which is amazing. I also took it to walmart and had their injector cleaning (also a spray but for 20.00) why not I put a can of seafoam in the gas as well... After the spray almost a full can a lot of blackish fluid came out of the throttle body and I sprayed until it was mostly clear. I let it sit over night and I also sprayed into every hose that goes into the throttle. The next day, it smoked like crazy for 3-4 min. barely ran then it cleaned up and was awesome. I went for smog yesterday and it passed, I found out I don't have a secondary air system or a heated HCAT so I passed!!! Damn stressful and wish I would have known more about the drive cycle, battery change stuff but I'm good now!!!

Hi Charlie. This thread is 3 years old. Please start a new thread so everyone can see your question and be able to help. To answer your question, my first thought is a burned out bulb for the check engine light on the instrument cluster. Hope that helps! Jim
