Car heat not working

Asked by Vogelmb Jan 02, 2019 at 01:14 PM about the 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The heat in my car was not working so I had the system flushed.  They
stated they flushed it twice and left a garden hose on it for one hour.  They
also replaced my thermostat.  My heat worked great for about 2 weeks and
then became very week, like lukewarm.  I had the system flushed again per
the mechanics suggestion and it worked great again, for about 2 weeks and
is back to lukewarm.  One mechanic tells me that they had a Grand Prix that
took 6 flushes to get all the gunk worked out of the system and another says
he thinks I need to replace my heater core.  Any insight is appreciated as I
am clueless to this stuff.

No, one flushes a cooling system 6 times! the heater core is the suspect... as long as all inside heat ducting actuators are functioning defrost, vent, floor blend door warm cool.

I should also clarify I have no leak from the heater core or coolant smell inside the car.

I agree. Sounds like a heater core. The shop is hoping it will clear with flushing because changing the heater core is no fun even when your getting paid to do it. Repeated flushing is not going to fix it. Spend your money on the proper repair.
