Can I use chains on front wheels only, off road on my frontier?

I think it will be okay but carefully check for clearance when turning sharply, and while suspension is fully compressed and turning. So take it easy and listen for clearance problems.

For seven years I drove an Oshkosh plow truck set up with chains in the front only and it could push a mountain of snow with no ill effects as the rear tires didn't have enough traction to even matter. Chains on the front help steering too as long as the four wheel drive was on and it was pointless not to.

I had a problem with my F150 using only chains on the rear when snow plowing. I think it lead to the transfer case bolts loosing up causing loss of ATF. The difference in diameter could be a problem! I carry two sets of chains now.

Another thought. Chains on the front could lead to the ass end of the truck leading!
