Is a used 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL worth it?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I'm considering buying a Used 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL as
my first car for 3,333 dollars. It has 197,000 miles on it and
looks in excellent condition. I'm just curious if a car with
almost 200,000 is worth it. Thank you in advance!

Can you afford to lose 3 grand the day after you buy it? I am not saying it will die but you have to go into a car like this expecting that it will die and not be worth fixing at any time.

Good point. If it didn't last me for a least a year that'd be a big lost.

Ask your self how much you will drive. If the car is in nice shape and you are only going to drive a few thousand a year it might last for quite a while.

Plenty of used cars that are under $5k out there. Stick with the reliable brands like Toyota and Honda. Lots of used sedans that easily can hit 200K miles if properly taken care of. I wouldn't risk it with a buick... my opinion

the drivetrain is usually near the end of life at that much mileage in my experience. it depends on how well the owner serviced it. the signs should be there when u test it. my transmission was rebuilt at 164k.

That car will have the 3800 V6 so the engine is not an issue. However, other things can be expensive if you are paying a mechanic.....but that is true with any car.

Thanks for the responses everyone. With it's high mileage I've come to a conclusion that I can't trust this car will last me for how long I want it to without costly repairs. Thank you.

I have a 2009 Lucerne that I've driven the crap out of, hour commute both ways to work and I drive the backroads, some are dirt pot-hole roads. I've owned it since 2014, when it had 100,000KMS on it.. it's not pushing 280,000 and still driving great. I'm rough on wheel bearings and have replaced the fronts twice now - I will fault this mostly to how I drive the car, admittedly too fast and I've put it down several back country logging trails it wasn't really built to handle. All other maintenance has been routine and as expected for mileage and usage, no surprises or crazy bills. I'm very pleased with this car. It could have a little more torque but I really cant complain because it's been a very reliable, solid car. It's still clean under the hood with minimal rust (a few little spots starting here and there, but I also live in Ontario where we salt our roads so I am expecting rust at some point).

I have a 2007 love the car most of the work I did myself. Wheel bearings, motor mounts heater core issues etc but had a shop in the past repair fuel line, water pump seal. This month I parked it to use my work car and tried to drive and transmission just seemed to have died! I’m at 216,000 miles. Was commuting to work 20 miles each way driving 75-90 mph but at 0 mph it died!
