2007 Ford Fusion SEL V6 3.0L Airbag Light On With B2290 Code

It has airbag warning light turns on & passenger air bag light goes off, after
few seconds of ignition/engine on. I hooked up the scanner and it gives
B2290 code stating Occupant Classification System fault, I tried erasing the
code, but unable to do it, as it comes right back on. I unplugged the wiring to
OCM (or occupant detection / weight) sensor part#14B422 underneath the
passenger seat, and then ofcourse U1900 came which says SRS module
fault, but then I was able to erase the B2290 code, and not U1900.  I also
took it to a body shop as they have high end diagnostic tools, and they said
recalibrating the OCM sensor should fix the issue, they tried to recalibrate it
two times was successfully completed but the code didn't go away. So they
are suspecting that OCM sensor could be bad itself, and need to be
replaced.
Its an expensive part $180, I don't want to just replace it, if its really not
required. Looking for 2nd opinion or suggestion to how to really identify the
problem part.

I inquired with dealership over phone about it, and as per them following
spec, it needs to replace all 4 sensors underneath the seat including rail
sensors, and all & all. I can't even locate those 4 sensors they talked about
at fordparts.com with my car details. I also couldn't locate those many plugs
& sensors underneath the passenger seat in my car. So I am not sure how
much to trust that information.

Its an expensive part $180, I don't want to just replace it, if its really not
required, and thus may not fix the problem. Looking for 2nd opinion or
suggestion to how to really identify the problem part. And if there is a way to
test if the sensor is really bad, by jumping/shorting the wires, resistance test
etc etc.

It sounds like your airbag control unit is no good you need to take it to a place where they could check the airbag control unit that is a very very dangerous thing if you touch the wrong wire that air could come out so please be careful that is nothing to play with I recommend you to take it to a place where they could check that unit for you there are special ways of doing that be careful

Hi , First of all thanks for taking time to answer my question. My bad, I probably wasn't complete in my detail, and confused you little bit. But that U1900 code went away, as soon I had plugged back the OCM sensor. I unplugged it to check if the code is coming from that sensor only. So I don't think its a problem with airbag control unit. So at end for clarity, I just have B2290 code. Please let me know if that helps you to analyze the situation better. Having the same with my 2007 MKZ, thinking about replacing the passenger seat from a junkyard for $ less than I paid for the scan tool and $$$ less than the dealer will be - blogs around the net go as high as $800 for the sensor service at the dealer, and a local u- pull junkyard lists power seats at $29.99, have 4 mkz/fusion sel/milan premier on the lot this week...

Yes that worked. I suspected if I just changed the passenger seat out with a used, so I removed the seat, went to Ryan's on Hubbell in Detroit, found an '06 Zephyr with unfortunately heated and cooled seats which cancels the heat only in the driver's seat, too - but for $29.99 the airbag light is now off, and the scan code B2290 is erased. Cheap success!
