why does my 2006 mercury montego jerk when put in gear

The RPM of the engine may be too high, idle is too high. Check for vacuum leaks.

It could be as simple as a motor mount bec i had same problem, it could be bec my wife does this backing out of a drive way and not stopping all the way before switching gear i try the cheapist then go from there and if its not those just hope it and your transmission slammin in gear. Good luck
