Do I have a motor issue?

I have a 07 Saturn Vue and it started making a
crazy metal racket or slight Knocking sound and
the check engine light will occasionally flash while
driving. I've treated the oil and the noise quieted
down but u can still hear it could this be a motor
issue or what? Please help!
