95 Tahoe sputter and backfires on hard start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 95 Tahoe misses and backfires when I
hit the gas. My cat converter was bad,
replaced that. Fuel filter replaced and I just
did a tune up. When the truck is cold it
does not seem to happen. 10 min after
start it will almost die with even a bit of
acceleration. Steady pumps of gas will get
it going. The Check Gage's light comes on
regularly. Not sure how to check the
Gage's. The temp is maxed out most of
the time but there is no overheating. any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would check the EGR valve for carbon that may be holding it open, and make sure it works. Another thing is how does the spray pattern out of the fuel injectors look? Should be a niece spay cone pattern with no droplets of fuel. That would be a TBI on there, I would also see if you have 9 to 13 lbs. fuel pressure. And also the fuel regulator may need to be rebuilt in the TBI.

I peaked at the fuel coming out of the tbi when I was doing the tuneup. Seemed normal but I need to take a better look. I'll get into it this afternoon and let you know. Thanks for the help.

The check gauges light is on because the temp is pegged out. It's just a light that comes on when a gauge is out of range. I'd pull codes just to see if anything comes up. Jump the 2 terminals on the top right of the connector and turn the ignition on. Then count flashes. It begins and ends with 12 and shows each code 3 times
