How do i go about puting a new ignition in it
still owning the  original chipped key

Call a locksmith or take it to the nearest Chevrolet / GM dealership.

If you want to do a DYI I would check YouTube for videos on how to do it is fairly easy to do the only thing is depending on your model you might have to get the chip keys reprogrammed and I would check with the local locksmith to do that because usually they're cheaper than a dealer so even if you do replace the lock your lock cylinder for your ignition you'll have to get it reprogrammed most likely double-check online do some research.
