On a 1997 Saturn S Series 4 door , when you put the key in the iginition to start , do the
headlights turn on automatic. So, the car's lights turn on automation Only when the car is
running ? Thank you.

Yes only the running lights do not the headlights.

Unless you have your emergency brake on, the running lights will turn on when the key is in to start the car. Likewise, when you put the car in park to turn it off, the running lights stay on until the car is turned off (unless you put on your parking break. Then they will turn off).
