I found these steps on the internet to assist you: ***Read all steps before attempting. You are on a time limit when entering codes, so knowing what to do in advance will save alot of frustration*** 1.) To begin, if your radio is displays LOC, then proceed to step 2. If your radio says INOP, then turn your ignition to the RUN position, and turn the radio ON. You must leave it like this for a minimum of 1 hour (not 59 minutes) to clear the INOP message. I would wait 1 1/2 hours just in case doing it too early causes the timer to start over. 2.) Turn your ignition to RUN (if not already), and your radio to OFF. Press and hold preset buttons 2 and 3 for around 5-10 seconds to obtain a scrambled version of your radio's original factory set code. 3.) Call 800-537-5140 and ignore whatever you are promted to do (something about different dealer brands Chevy, Pontiac, Saturn, etc.), and type the number 202108 into your phone and then press the # button. 4.) Input your radio's 4 digit code into your phone when prompted, then press the * button (NOT pound symbol like above step) and be ready with a pen and paper to write down the unscrambled code. Keep this code somewhere you WILL NOT lose it. I wrote mine in the notes section of the owners manual. 5.) Once you have the code written down, press and hold 5 and 6 on your radio's preset buttons for 5-10 seconds. 6.) Then press the seek down button once to start the entry process. 7.) Using the following key, repeatedly press the buttons to set your code: seek down = first digit seek up = second digit tune down = third digit tune up = fourth digit 8.) Once you have the code entered, press AM/FM to set it. You can also take it to any GM dealership and they can help you out. I am sure they will charge you labor of course.

I have a saturn SL 2002 and the battery went dead and the theft deterrent system stopped the radio from working. I read the owners manual and was working to fix it and I put the radio in lock mode. After reading a bunch of post on a number of sites. The simple answer was to turn the switch to ACC for 60-90 mins and I just put in the code that I found from the previous owner and it worked. If you have this problem, look for the code first probably in the owners manual.

I followed the instructions given by striving2beme and they worked flawlessly. I did have access to the original four-digit code that was entered for the radio security system. I left the car in ACC mode for a full 90 minutes, and got the entry screen as indicated; then, I simply followed the instructions in the Owner's Manual.

After about a year, I finally asked my friend why she never listened to the raido in her car (a 1997 Saturn). She told me that it had been on LOC since she got it. She told me that her grandson, a mechanic by trade and a wiz on the computer, had tried for hours to reset it before having had enough of it. I said "Really? I wanna give it a go! Maybe I can get it to work." Laughingly, she looked at me and said, "Now, Stacy, he is a trained mechanic. He worked all day on that and HE couldn't do it." I tried anyway and, after my Google Assistant found videos on how to do it, I found this article. I used it step by step! In the time it took her to run in the store and get back to the car, I had the music on! Let me just say that the look on her face was absolutely priceless! Thanks so much! BTW, I avoided step 1 all together by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it! Have a great day, y'all!

On my Saturn 2002 l2000 you have to hold down the 1 and 2 preset buttons not 2 and 3. After that I cannot get the next sequence to pop up to enter the numbers and the phone number provided no longer works.

This happened to me and I found out how to unlock it. Hope it works for you. When I sold my car I included these instructions because it was such a hassle to figure it out... Instructions to unlock the anti-theft feature in the radio If the battery is replaced it may cause the radio to lock. Here is how to unlock it. 2001 Saturn L200 1. Turn the car on in auxiliary mode, but do not start the engine. Leave it on for exactly 1 hour. Have the radio in the “ON” position. 2. After one exact hour the radio display will turn on. Use the disk seek scan and the auto tone up and down arrows to enter the code 1 2 3 4 into the display. Then press the am/fm button. The radio is now unlocked. Note: If you make a mistake you will have to repeat the entire procedure over.
