Asked by Suzie4444 Oct 19, 2017 at 05:54 PM about the 2003 Saturn L-Series 4 Dr L300 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I know my car is older but the mechanics that try to fix it
still haven't. I have a Saturn 2003 L300 that seems to just
die when warmed up or on hot humid days. In the
beginning my car would randomly die while at lights or
just  idling .We've replaced many sensors ( crank and
camshaft) along with others. We've fixed most of the
wiring and the harness. They cleaned the throttle body
and she does run a lot better. It's been a month and I've
had no problems until two days ago. After an hour drive I
stopped by the store after 30min started it up started
driving. It started slowly heaving forward and eventually
just died. I didn't leave the parking lot came to a rolling
stop and tried to start it up again. The power was there
but it wouldn't start. I waited and still wouldn't start.

Any ideas?

it has to be tested when the problem occurs , otherwise it will show normal , this may not be convenient but that's the way it is , test for spark and fuel pressure , scna for codes even if the light ain't on

Ditto to above, test fuel pressure, and check intake air control valve (IAC). It supplies air to an engine when your foot is not pressing on the gas (like when idling or sitting at a light with your foot on the brakes).

There are no lights on the dash and I'm not sure if they checked the skark coils. It's just hard because it's so random. The only consistent is hot weather and a warm engine. Since it has been tuned up it does run a lot better.

Just a question but would that also have anything to do with putting the car in reverse( after sometime not being driven (overnight)) and it kind of sputters?

Clean the MAF sensor, it requires a MAF cleaner which you can find in an auto parts shop. It's delicate, and located in the throttle body. Don't clean it with carb cleaner that will ruin it. You may also want to run some fuel injector cleaner in your gas tank. These are low cost solutions that will hopefully clear up any sputtering.
