You should stick with the Chevy block designed for the vortec set-up, 1996 to later years I am not sure of, because there are bolt holes in the middle of the valley for the push-rod guide, and I believe the lifter bores are longer. I just built a vortec motor for my 1995 Chevy Silverado using a 1997 short block for the vortec set-up. Now when I tore apart my original motor, 1995, the block was made for the vortec set-up but had the standard heads, lifters, pushrods on it. Parts do interchange, but I like doing things the way there suppose to be. I have had my 95 truck since 1997.
