Brakes are not always firm. Could this be a Master Cylinder problem?

Brake pedal is firm when first pressed and them next time pedal goes completely to floor. The next time used the pedal is firm,. Pedal is firm when backing up.

Most likely the master cylinder is leaking internally. If the pedal fades to the floor under steady pressure, it's definitely the master cylinder. Hope that helps! Jim
