to change a fuel pump on a 97 surberban 1500 do you need to take the ball joint out ?

we took our 97 surberban 1500 to a car shop yesterday to get a new fuel pump in. When
we took it home while driveing the whole tire on the passenger side came off.

fuel pump is in the gas tank in the back of the truck -- Ive never touched the tires while doing fuel pumps -- sounds like some bad luck --!
