Mercedes Benz 2007 C280 - Battery died & having trouble shifting upward, also clunks between Park and reverse.

Hi darling, please help!

My beautiful baby is in the shop and they’re
estimating $1890 plus tax!! She’s been smooth
sailing with only 110k miles. I don’t drive much at all
except to the beach for morning jogs. Last week,
the battery died. I bought a new one and everything
seemed fine, but again I drove a few miles. Then I
noticed I was revving up but not moving any faster.
My Benz was making a loud noise like it was using
all its power and might. I could barely get over the
bridge that day! I made it home and smelled some
burning. When I put it in park it clunked really hard,
the entire car jolted. Now my sun roof won’t open
unless I repeatedly press the button (usually I can
just hold it down). My transmission never knocks.
All fluids were just topped off and recent oil change.
I pulled out the switch under the accelerator. I reset
the computer by holding down the accelerator for
20 seconds and then turning off. The maximum
speed I reached without going in the “red” was
40mph. It quickly can get to 25mph. Any
suggestions? Because I highly doubt this is a $2k
problem, am I right?

PS: two codes resulted from diagnostic testing, P0717 & P2006 Also, the mechanic said I have a malfunction within the transmission control system, a speed sensor malfunction and many other malfunctions related to shifting gears. He said I would need a valve body replacement. If this is all true, could I have prevented it? Would my Benz have displayed symptoms prior to my battery dying and not being able to drive faster than 45? Do all of those issues come from one code (as in it may actually only be one of those issues and not all of them?)
