Check Engine Light for 2007 Dodge Caliber

Asked by Guru98KX5W May 21, 2022 at 01:37 PM about the 2007 Dodge Caliber SXT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Dodge Caliber. Recently the "Check Engine Light" started
coming on. It would stay on while I'm driving, then it would go out but come
on again later. Then, I got home, left the car, started it the next day and the
light did not come on. I drove it for two weeks, then suddenly, the light came
on again. My friend has a device to analyze problems. The device read S7E8
and S7E9. I've searched everywhere online and can't find out what these
codes refer to. Can you please provide me with some assistance? Thank
you.

Visit your local auto parts store and have them scan the computer for trouble codes. Most stores will do it for free. The codes you're looking for begin with the letter "P" and are four digits. Such as P0300, for example. Post the codes you get and we can help further. Jim

S7E8 is for the engine; S7E9 is for the transmission. They're just letting you know that there are stored codes for those items, but the scan tool you're using isn't capable of reading them. You need a better, more expensive reader, so take the car to a mechanic or to a Dodge dealer to get the actual codes read.

So there are code readers that don't read all the codes?
