Is this vehicle good for a family of 4?

Looking into possibly buying a 2006 jeep commander that I
have read wonderful reviews on. And heard it's great in the
snow and winter here can get pretty bad. It would be a
vehicle with 2 young children. Not sure of the trim the onw I
am looking at just says trim:4wd

That really doesn't help me. How is it not reliable? Yes I have seen all the recalls(I'm sure its fixed by now) yes I kbow its essentially a gas guzzler. You said its not reliable so how is it not reliable,explain please?
