Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ive got a 92 mighty max 4cyl 2wd.  i have no vaccuum to egr. when i probe the first wire
on the harness plug it has power, when i ck the second wire it also has power but the
vacuum begins to work once i remove the probe (break ground with test light) i loose
vacuum any ideas.

....well it opens up on deceleration and when combustion temperatures are too hot because the engine would self destruct with the high- temperatures....so we have to find out which components apply vacuum under these circumstances~ it makes it's move like 400 times a second BTW~

i understand that much of it, just cant figure out why i can ground that second wire rev the engine and get vacuum, but as soon as i disconnect the ground i loose the ability to have vacuum. ive changed the solenoid with same results

did you disassemble the EGR and spray it clean with some brake cleaner...they get clobbered with exhaust and carbon and do not move even if the diaphragm is intact~

seeing as they are friggin' expensive, a can of carb cleaner might do it...get a new gasket tho...they ain't much~ https://www.google.com/#q=1992+Mitsubishi+Mighty+Max+Pickup+EGR+val ve

besides it's purpose is to "cool the show"....unless you're drivin' it HARD, wouldn't care about this goodie~...upon deceleration...just how much is this saving...like forcing it to breath it's own farts...not too helpful to you, but collectively all of the cars combined leaves a teenytiny carbon nail-print~

yes did all the basics, just cant figure out the solenoid issue. i need to get it smogged. maybe il just ground the solenoid long enough for smog, would rather fix but just cant figure that part out. hopefully its not the computer

Yes the solenoid will activate the egr...or kill the egr? you'd have to inspect the operation by applying suction and see what moves...like I say buggered up with carbon have serviced more than one of these in my short career~...in a smog shop nonetheless~

computers DO NOT FAIL...proper grounding to them DOES fail~ insure the 1/0 black cable has a Clean...down to the metal connection to the chassis ground please...your ecu will not misbehave...the data it's been presented with can be faulty...like a bad temperature sensor for example~

a multi-meter would tell you if the coil to activate it is getting power or ignoring the signal~...fact there very well be an egr fuse too~
