Mazda 3 '06, doesn't turn on

I parked the car in the parking lot of our apt around March. Since then I
regularly turned it on (even though not so often). Today though, while I tried  
to turn it on again, when I turned the keys, the car didn't show the usual
checklights on the dashboard. The dashboard's indicators were going end of
scale and back. No effort to start the engine showed. The only light on was
the oil light. When I pressed on the break, the backlight on the dashboard
turned off. Could it be the battery?

I would say that is your problem. You could check the voltage of the battery, have an auto parts store test it for you, or a simple jump start will work. Though I would put the battery on a trickle charger after you determined it is the battery so you don't drain the charged up or new battery. Cars like to be driven and not sit parked.
