Why is my Passat stuck in Reverse?

Asked by Thomas Jan 04, 2021 at 03:14 AM about the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 3.6L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My VW Passat is stuck in reverse.  Before that the car was having a heck of a time switching between 2nd and 3rd gear.  A few people I asked about it told me it "might" just need the tranny fluid flushed but because it's a closed system it has to be done by a garage that has the correct tools.  What are the chances that the tranny just gave up the ghost?  Thanks in advance!

Stuck in reverse and having issues with shifting between second and third, might mean a new trans. You can have the fluid changed and see if the symptoms go away, but don't get upset if it doesn't fix the issue. Have a trans mechanic give you some advise.
