Has anyone ever used Head Gasket sealer that you pour in radiator?

Asked by Sabrina Oct 03, 2013 at 12:50 PM about the 2004 Volkswagen Passat GLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I fixed the hose on my car. The mechanic told me that my head gasket was leaking. I
was getting oil in water and he said it was too much pressure. My husband bought the
head gasket liquid. I was just curious if anyone had any experience with it.

It's dubbed by techs, as "mechanic in a can". It may cost you quite a bit of money, if it doesn't hold. I've read positive and negative posts on head gasket sealers. Personally, If it was my car, I would replace the gasket if I intended on keeping the car longer. This would be for "peace of mind" driving it down the road.

I tried using that on a 1981 diesel Rabbit to plug a head gasket leak. The only thing that got plugged was the lower quarter of the radiator. That stuff is pretty much useless to me.
