Asked by GuruZPTKL Nov 19, 2017 at 02:45 PM about the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The warning sign for the coolant keeps going off. The car
has coolant in it and it’s not over heating . Scared to even
drive my car ??? What should I do ? Maybe I have too
much coolant .? It’s above the minimum line way above it
?? But it isn’t over flowing ?

in most cases the sensor that causes this is the one in the overflow tank. You can replace it pretty easy. just buy a new tank its relatively cheap tip the tank away from the lines and unplug it then drain it into the new one and plug it back onto the hoses. it should stop the issue.

on my 02 buick a code would come up and the scanner from autozoo would say "low coolant " looked for air , bled it out a few times and scanned with their new OBD and it was more elaborate , "low coolant temp " which meant the stupid thermostat was opening up at 185 instead of 190 , a new quality thermostat solved the problem , then I could get my stupid "safety " inspection .the code only tells you where the problem is
