What is the standard charge for fixing a coolant leak into my oil?

My vehicle has been riding roughly.When I went to get my oil changed I was told that coolant is leaking into my oil. Could this be responsible for 5th gear feeling as if I'm driving into no more than second gear? I have a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta GL

You might also look at the oil cooler, mounted between the oil filter and the block...it could have a pinhole leak in it. But, generally, the symptom described points to a failed head gasket. Not too hard to do on the 2.0 ABA engine...a bit more complex on the VR6. Given the age of the vehicle and if you are really attached to it...a quality rebuilt engine would a tactically good move at this point. And while you're in there...replace the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.
