Vw parts interchange not listed

Ok so i have an mk4 vw golf 2.8 vr6, now the body is a 2000 along with the
shifter linkage and cables, however, the engine and computer along with wiring
harness is a 1999 Jetta 2.8 vr6. I want to take a shifter linkage and cables out
of a 2002 2.0 Jetta Looks exactly the same and I was told by someone i trust
that it is but I am a fan of second 3rd and 4th opinions
