Asked by Patrick May 10, 2018 at 10:31 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Past 3 days now, as I drive I get this surging as I accelerate,
after a little while, I loose all gears, as if I'm in neutral,  so I
put in park turn off engine, wait a minute and start engin
again, put it in drive and drive away again, after about 5
minutes it does the same thing again, what could be going
on with this, please help.

Check if the transmission fluid is good and cherry red, check for metal flakes, smell for a burnt odor, see if you have a leak below of transmission fluid, check for physical movement of the gear selector. When checking the fluid check it cold then check it again once you have started if you notice a drop then the pump is working if no drop then the pump is not working. If you heard a load pop or clunk then something gave out and it could be a drum or gear broke and may need an overhaul.

Everything checks out good, still baffled by this, just drove blazer again, drive great for about 15 minutes, and then loose all of the gears, pulled over, turned blazer off, and then back on, drives great again, this time 7 minutes, turn of again, start back up and drive again , 17 minutes and lose all gears again, turn off engine, start again , and drives perfect again, does not make sence to me.

No check engine lights, runs like the day bought her, never had an issue, till this last week, and today.
