Our 1984 Toyota corolla died on us a year ago. It will crank but not start. What could it be??

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced the fuel pump its a mechanical one. Would like to avoid tearing into the carburetor but if I have to so be it. Has spark and fuel. New battery. Just died while driving. Any suggestions?

the tank was emptied and filled up halfway. Ive sprayed carb cleaner around all the vaccum lines and it still wont fire up.

Just saw this post. There was a recall on the igniter assembly inside the distributor. Ours failed at 30,000 miles, when the car was a few years old. It tends to overheat in there, and if grease isn't used to combat the heat, it could possibly fail in the future. When we sold it at 150,000, it was still on the replacement igniter. It results in a no-spark condition.
