Fair price for 87 Civic Hatchback?

Asked by eugeneparadox May 21, 2012 at 12:56 AM about the 1987 Honda Civic Si Hatchback

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

My mom passed away last year.  She was the original owner of her Civic and put less than 50,000 miles on
it and got it serviced regularly.  It's in great shape.  I'm not sure if it's a DX or an S.  It has a sun roof but
no radio, air conditioning, or any mods.  A friend would like to buy it, and I don't have any car sales to
compare it with.  What do you think I should I ask for?  Thanks.

If i would buy the car, I would buy it for 2,000. A car so old with little mileage probably has some issues. Like seals which costs about 3000 to replace. So on and so forth. It depends on the condition of the car, it demand(probably none), and the demand of other newer like cars. You'll be able to figure out a price after you've considered all these factors. get it appraised.

Thanks, Alex. Any suggestions for an appraiser? The local repair shop where the car always got serviced? A Honda dealer? A used car lot?

It is worth around 3, 999$ just the way it is. Anything less is a gift. Seriously. There is little wrong with these vehicles and they last a long time, You really should keep it.

Thanks, fairdeal, but the car is sold. A used car dealer offered $3500 but then lowered his bid to $3000 after noticing some cosmetic things. Then another buyer walked onto the lot and offered $3100.
