ive a 1985 camry and am having problems with it dying on me on a constance as iam thinking maybe it could be the fuel filter ; had water pump replaced with timing chain ; what do you think?

How often does it die? and how soes it die( sputter then quit, start run for a bit then quit etc) and does it have a carburetor or fuel injected?
