2000 ML320.. Went through water and had to brake due to car in front stopped suddenly, and now car is making weird loud noise

Does it sound like its keeping pace with engine rpm? If so could be worn belt or idler pulley going bad.

Hard to diagnose without hearing the "weird loud noise"- better take it to the MB weird loud noise specialist

Sounds like the brakes/rotors were hot, the water cooled them too quickly, and when you had to stop suddenly, you warped the rotors and messed up the pads. Without hearing the noise, I am just taking a guess.
