My 1998 ML 320 will turn over but will not start. I can smell gas but and have lights. Is there a fuse that could be out or could it be something more?

It could be that the 'crank angle sensor' has failed, this is basically a sensor that detects the engine turning and sends a signal to the ignition system to tell it when to fire. Generally found near the rear of the engine at the flywheel.
