Engine compatibility between a auto trans and man. trans.

Asked by GuruJ9GG8 Jul 22, 2020 at 07:01 PM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 2500 Laramie LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 05 Dodge 5.9L diesel 2500 PU with a man.trans. and the engine is
toast. I now have a line on a engine (same year) but it comes out of a truck that
had an auto trans., are they compatible?

U will have to change the flywheel and put yours on the new engine, you might want to put a new clutch kit in since u have to remove the transmission first anyway. And use the starter off the old engine. Other than that it should bolt right up no problem.
