2500 Dodge Ram Transmission problems when driving through rain puddles

Asked by Art Aug 14, 2018 at 11:51 AM about the 2004 Dodge RAM 2500 SLT LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My has a 2500 Dodge Ram 5.9L truck.  Every time
it rains (especially when he drives through
puddles) the transmission acts up.  It will go in and
out of overdrive and the tow/haul light comes on
and goes off. It's even stalled out several times.

He just "had the transmission rebuilt" bc of this
problem but we later found out that the shop is
very shady...don't know if it was actauuly rebuilt.

We're guessing it may be an electrical problem but
he also has a very large hole in the muffler case
(not sure if this could cause a problem or not.

We're very limited on funds so trying to diagnose
the.problem and possibly fix it ourselves. Any help
would be appreciated. I'm submitting the question
for him but he will likely give any responses.

I would find all the transmission electrical connectors and pull them apart and seal them with dielectric grease to keep moisture out.
