Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Been working fine and when I came home and went to move truck I started it, engine tried
to start, but would not kick over and start. Checked fuses and put gas I had in a gas
container in just to be sure. It was trying to start and it would hit 500 rpms and then just
die.

Hitting 500 rpms says you got it to start? And then it would die. Or did it seem like it was running when you revved up to 500 rpms, and "die"? Sounds like you need to get the alternator tested. It most likely hasn't died yet, but it's getting ready to. The engine starts off of battery power, and once it's running, it switches to the alternator. So, to keep running, it needs the alternator to be in working order. If you know how to get it out of the vehicle, you can take it to most mechanic's shops, and they can test it. Doesn't need to be in the vehicle for a test!
